Why You Should Visit Adelaide – Australia’s Most Cosmopolitan City

Adelaide has a Mediterranean type of climate with warm, sunny weather for most of the year.

An exciting ‘must visit’ city and with just over a 1.3 million people, Adelaide is South Australia’s coastal capital. Settled in 1836, it is one of Australia’s oldest cities.

Adelaide is everything you want in a city. It has charm and sophistication, a whole lot of energy and oodles of history. Certainly, it’s a destination that will surprise and inspire.

There’s plenty to see and do here, so make sure you spend some time in this fun South Australian city.

Culture and Festivals

Dubbed the Festival City, Adelaide is home to a thriving festival scene. So, if want a cultural holiday experience, visit throughout January to March when the festivals are in full swing.

The most well-known festivals are The Tour Down Under, Adelaide Fringe Festival, WOMADelaide and Tasting Australia.

There are also many smaller festivals and events staged in pop-up venues through city laneways, warehouses and parks. They bring the city’s streets and open spaces to life with performances, night markets and mobile food vendors.

Adelaide’s History & Architecture

Historic buildings, lush parklands and sprawling botanic gardens are some of the favourite attractions you will find in Adelaide.

Take a guided tour or one of the walking trails throughout the city. These trails highlight the magnificent architecture and share some of the colourful tales that are a huge part of Adelaide’s history.

The Art Gallery of South Australia and The South Australian Museum house impressive collections of art and Aboriginal cultural artefacts.

Australian Birds and Wildlife

A fan of zoos and wildlife parks, I love to get my zoo fix whenever I travel to Adelaide. Make sure you pack your camera.

If you want to see some of our unique Australian birds and wildlife – including koalas, kangaroos, wombats and other unusual Aussie critters – Adelaide Zoo is a great place to visit. Read more about Australia’s cutest critters.

Food & Café Culture

Adelaide is the gateway to some of Australia’s best wine regions and has always been a trend-setter when it comes to local restaurants, cafes and bars.

Access to the freshest fruit, vegetables, cured and smoked meats, seafood and an exceptional range of cheeses will give you the best dining choices. Treat yourself and experience some of the award-winning restaurants that Adelaide has to offer.

Rundle Street mall is one of my favourite city malls. There’s always something new going on to give this mall its big-country-town feel and friendly atmosphere.

There are plenty of fashion designers, boutiques and department stores, but don’t skip the arcades and laneways. You will find amazing little coffee shops and cafes tucked away, and they will take your Adelaide shopping experience to the next level.

Adelaide Is the Perfect Escape

Discover the diversity of South Australia. Perfectly positioned, Adelaide is the gateway to world-famous wine regions, beautiful swimming and surfing beaches, historical towns, quaint villages deep in the hills as well as tons of Australian wildlife and stunning landscapes – all within a short drive.
